Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens inside your browser, using your own computer’s or phone’s processor. Your file is never sent over the internet. You can even disconnect after the page loads and the tool keeps working.

How much quality is lost?

We first try to shrink the file without any loss. If that isn’t enough, only the photos and scanned pages inside the PDF are compressed; text and graphics stay untouched. With the “Hit the target” priority, if that still isn’t enough, pages are turned into images. The text can then no longer be selected, and we tell you clearly when that happens.

Why couldn’t it reach my target?

Documents with many pages sometimes can’t get below a certain size and stay readable. In that case you get the smallest possible version; try splitting the document into several parts.

How are megabytes calculated?

To stay on the safe side, we treat 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes and aim slightly below your target, so the file stays under the limit however a system defines a megabyte.
